Quote of the Day 8/12

“When her body first hit the net, all I registered was a gray blur. I pulled her across it and her hand was small, but warm, and then she stood before me, short and thin and plain and in all ways unremarkable- except that she had jumped first. The stiff had jumped first. Even I didn’t jump first.
Her eyes were so stern, so insistent.
Beautiful.”

Z is for Zeke Pedrad

imageThis is my last A-Z Challenge post! I had a lot of fun, but at the same time, I’m glad it’s over. I probably wouldn’t feel this way if I hadn’t missed a week of posts, but life happens. (Zeke’s real name is Ezekiel, but I completely forgot that until RIGHT now, so he’s going here.)

Book(s) He’s In: The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth.

Favorite Characteristic(s): Zeke is the older, more serious version of Uriah. Not that he’s not amusing. I think my favorite thing about him, though, is the relationship between him and Uriah. They get along similarly to how I interact with my siblings. I’ve heard some people say that it’s unrealisitc to have families in books that get along so well, but I think it’s a matter of perspective. To me, it seems unusual to have so many books where the protagonist avoids their family or where a family isn’t really mentioned.

Favorite Quote(s): “Careful, brother, or I might not tighten your straps enough and then, splat!” (They’re going zip lining.) This basically the only Zeke-Uriah quote I could find that wasn’t an entire coversation, but their dialogue is the best.

Quote of the Day 5/9

“Who is he when he isn’t Dauntless, isn’t an instructor, isn’t Four, isn’t anything in particular?
Whoever he is, I like him. It’s easier to admit that to myself now, in the dark, after all that just happened. He is not sweet or gentle or particularly kind. But he is smart and brave, and even though he saved me, he treated me like I was strong. That is all I need to know.”

U is for Uriah Pedrad

image

Uriah is the only U name I could think of, but even if he wasn’t, let’s be honest, he’d still be my favorite.

Book(s) He’s In: The Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth.

Favorite Characteristic(s): Uriah can always lighten the mood. He’s a person anyone would like to hang out with (or at least I would.) Also, in a dystopian world, Uriah seemed more relatable than a lot of characters. I could especially relate to his family dynamic. I wasn’t a huge fan of Tris, so Uriah was probably my favorite character in the series.

Favorite Quote(s): “So the thing we’re not talking about. You almost died, a sadistic pansycake saved you, and now we’re all waging some serious war with the factionless as allies.” and basically any scene with him and Zeke. Also, “I provide much needed eye candy.”

Quote of the Day 4/23

“‘What is it with you today?’ says Christina on the way to breakfast. Her eyes are still swollen from sleep and her tangled hair forms a fuzzy halo around her face.
‘Oh, you know,’ I say. ‘Sun shining. Birds chirping.’
She raises an eyebrow at me, as if reminding me that we are in an underground tunnel.”

Quote of the Day 3/6

“Okay. Then…I can talk. Ask me something.”
“Okay.” He laughs shakily in my ear. “Why is your heart racing Tris?”
I cringe and say, “Well, I…I barely know you. I barely know you and I’m crammed up against you in a box, Four, what do you think?” […]
“Maybe you were cut out for Candor,” he says, “because you’re a terrible liar.”
